On Thursday evening, Big Bend National Park received notice of a fatality along the Chimneys Trail. Rangers responded, and a deceased 75-year-old male from Houston was located approximately ½ mile from the trailhead. There was no obvious cause of death.

As the snow melts away in Denali, so does evidence of winter wildlife activity. These wolf tracks were found near Mile 9 of the park road, an area where wolf sightings are rare. At 11:00 AM, rangers were notified of a wildfire in the Southwest Rim area of the Chisos. Current estimate is 1.5 acres in size. Firefighters are hiking to the area now, and will work to contain the fire once they arrive. No trail closures at this time.
